Reception: Honey Bees

Welcome to the Honey Bees

Hello and welcome!

*Meet the Honey Bee grown-ups*

The grown-ups in the Honey Bees class are Ms Holman (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), Mrs Spratt (Thursday and Friday), Mrs De'Ath, Miss Warden and Miss Cox. We love teaching the Honey Bees and we are so proud of their achievements!

If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you!

*Our Christian Value for the term*

Our Christian value this term is ‘Justice.’

Justice means giving all people what it is right and fair for them to have: life, health, freedom and dignity.

It is about acting out of a concern for what is right.

When we think about justice, we also think about the British Value of Tolerance and Mutual Respect and Democracy.

Deuteronomy 16:20: Follow justice and justice alone.

*Our Learning for this term*
Summer Term 2 2026

This term, the reception children will be learning all about summer, and our Drawing Club books will be focused for the most part on stories about the holiday season.  What the Ladybird Heard will be our first text, and in the following weeks we will base our writing on 100 Dogs, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Mud, Burglar Bill, Zog and stories about London and the royal family.  As we get closer to the end of the term, our trip to Rand Farm will inspire us to learn more about farm animals, with both fiction and non-fiction books.

In phonics, we will continue to recap the phonemes we have learnt, and we will work on the children’s fluency in reading and independence in writing. Our focus is on long vowel sounds, and words with various endings such as ed, id, t, d and es.

In maths, the children will be consolidating their knowledge and building their confidence in all areas, with lots of problemsolving, estimating, subitising and comparison work. We are introducing the use of Rekonreks to support children’s mathematical understanding and fluency with numbers.

Our Understanding the World activities will include looking at seasonal change, how to keep safe in the sun and how people (and animals) help us. We will also be comparing Lincoln to hotter countries like Nigeria and will look at natural and man-made landmarks. Our RE lessons will focus on Our Beautiful World. We will be doing lots of work around transitions as we edge towards the end of the academic year, and the children will have the opportunity to talk about hopes and any anxieties in our PSED sessions before they leave reception to move up to Year One.

We will have some special days during the summer term – National Mud Day will be fun, and we will have our trip to Rand Farm, and Sports Day, too!

The children will be spending time with their new teachers later in the term, as part of their preparation for Year One. We are all amazed at how fast the year is passing, and can’t believe that our Honeybees, Beetles and Butterflies will soon be fluttering off to their next classes! We’ll miss them so much!
