We believe that reading for pleasure is so important for everyone. We pride ourselves on supporting all our children to become lifelong readers and develop a love of stories and books. We feel that this is not only beneficial for communication and language development, but also for relaxation and wellbeing.
We do so many different things in school to promote reading for pleasure and encourage everyone in our St Faith's family to develop a love of reading. In school, we:
- Share an author of the term
- Plan story times and promote high-quality text
- Daily story time
- Have reading nooks in every classroom
- Little reading areas throughout the school
- Reading challenges for children to complete at home e.g. Finding the most unusual places to read
- Have a little library at our school gates for the local community to use
- Have a staff read book swap in our library
- Hold meetings with our Reading for Pleasure Parent Group
- Surprise story chest visits to different classrooms
