The Dragonfly Class recommend .....
After the Fall by Dan Santat
The story follows Humpty Dumpty after his famous fall and shows us how he learns to face his fears.
We thought the book had an important message about being brave, never giving up and facing the things that scare us. Humpty Dumpty becomes afraid of heights after his accident, which stops him from doing some of the things he loves. Eventually, he realises that life can be quite sad if we let our fears stop us.
“Every time you have a fear, you can face it.”
“I really like the book because it teaches people to be brave. Humpty Dumpty was afraid of heights, but he never gave up.”
We also talked about how mistakes are okay and accidents can happen. Humpty Dumpty had a choice: he could continue avoiding his fear or be brave and face it. We loved seeing him choose to face his fear!
The ending was one of our favourite parts. We thought it was hilarious when something completely unexpected happened… but we won’t spoil it for you!
The Dragonflies would definitely recommend After the Fall. It taught us that even when something knocks us down, we can get back up, be brave and keep going!

Whatever Next by Jill Murphy
This is a lovely story about a family of Bears. Baby Bear has a fantastic imagination and wants to travel to the moon. He finds all of the equipment he needs around his home and sets off up the chimney. He luckily arrives home just in time for bath time and we are not too sure that his mummy believes where he has been!
The Beetles class love this story and enjoy reading it over and over again.

Perfectly Norman by Tom Percival
This is a great story about a little boy called Norman. He is perfectly normal until one day he grows his own wings. He tries to hide his wings from his parents and his friends but this makes him so unhappy. He eventually reveals them and he is so glad that he does. It is a story that soothes worries and shows us all that it is great to be different!
The Ladybird children read this story regularly at story time and tell us ...
"I love it when everyone flies at the end because the wings are so colourful."
"He tries to hide his wings but he doesn't need to. He doesn't want his mum and dad to see his beautiful wings because he thought his wings looked weird."
"His mum and dad told him to take his coat off!"

Bower Bird by Julia Donaldson
Bowerbird is just lovely!
It is a beautiful story showing that being true to yourself and being kind are the things that matter the most. It's so sweet and we all love it!
