Nursery: Caterpillars

Welcomtthe Caterpillars!

Hello and welcome!

*Meet the Caterpillar grown-ups*

The grown-ups in the Caterpillar class are Mrs Elwell, Mrs Leatherland and Mrs Soulsby. We love teaching the Caterpillars and we are so proud of their achievements!

If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you!

*Our Christian Value for the term*

JUSTICE

Our value in term  is 'Justice'. Justice is about ensuring fairness in the way people are dealt with and making sure that all people are treated equally. It is having the quality of being reasonable and fair. It is striving to put right or prevent an injustice.

Proverbs 21:15 When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous. Amos 5:24 But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream. Psalm 106:3 Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right. Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do right, seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.

What can you do to show justice? Here are some examples:

Include everyone in your play. Don't judge people by how they look - remember we are all the same on the inside. Take turns with equipment and resources - don't keep something for yourself but make sure it is shared and everyone has a turn. Are you good at working as part of a team? Show consideration and empathy for others. Are you good at resolving arguments with others? How can you ensure a fair outcome?Practise seeing things from someone else's point of view. Think about ways that you can help people in the world who may not have as much as others. What can you do to help them? How can you bring about  positive change in the world where everyone is treated fairly and equally?

"There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest." Elie Wiesel

*Our Learning for the term*

Spring 2

We hope that all of our Caterpillars have had a restful and fun half term and are ready for a busy and enjoyable term. We are really looking forward to all the learning that is going to take place this term whilst we continue to look after each other and stay safe. Learning will take place both in school and also via 'Zoom school' for the children in our class who are currently learning from home. I am sure that everyone will continue to do an amazing job!

In phonics we will continue to practise and learn how to segment and blend words. Our weekly writing activities will focus around children's stories and rhymes. This will allow us to write in a range of different ways. The short writing activities, linked to Talk for Writing, will enable us to develop our use of phonics and handwriting whilst encouraging independent writing. In Maths we are continuing to develop our understanding and love of number including practical addition and subtraction, and later in the term doubling and halving.

Alongside all of this we will learning indoors and outdoors, challenging our ideas and allowing the amazing Caterpillars to lead their learning as we plan our play together.

We are going to have a fantastic term of learning and fun, both at home and at school!

Spring Term 1

Welcome back to all our wonderful Caterpillars. We have had a lovely first day back after the Christmas break. We have welcomed seven new children into the Caterpillars class and our St. Faith's family today. I'm so very proud of how well the children confidently entered our classroom and joined in choosing their learning. What an amazing start to your learning journey at St. Faith's. We hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and a happy new year. We are looking forward to all the learning that is going to take place this term. Our talk for Writing text this half term is 'Little Red Hen'. You can find the story script, activities and topic ideas in the Remote Learning section on this website.

In phonics we will continue to learn Phase One Phonics and teach Phase Two Phonics to children who are ready to move on to learning phonemes. In Maths we are continuing to develop our understanding and love of number including ordering numbers, and practical addition.

Alongside all of this we will learning indoors and outdoors, challenging our ideas and allowing the amazing Caterpillars to lead their learning as we plan our play together.

Autumn Term 2

We had a super time learning about the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? last half term. Well done Caterpillars for your great story telling using our story map. You joined in with the actions brilliantly. The children enjoyed making bear biscuits on Marvellous Me Monday.

We also enjoyed our shared reading text Dear Zoo.

We are focusing on the story of Mr Wiggle and Mr Waggle this half term for talk for writing. I think that the children will really enjoy the actions which accompany the story. Our shared reading text is The Train Ride and I look forward to the children joining in with the repeated refrains.

In phonics we spent time learning lots of different rhymes and gaining in confidence to participate. We are moving onto learning about alliteration as well as instrumental sounds to accompany the sounds of fireworks on Bonfire night as well as learning about how to stay safe around fireworks, bonfires and sparklers.

We look forward to celebrating odd socks day at the start of Anti-Bullying week and learning about what the word bullying means and how we can help others if someone is being unkind. Odd socks day helps us to share with the children that it's alright to be different because we are all unique.

We will continue to learn how to count, recognise and represent numbers. The children will also learn about shapes and measures.

The children in the Caterpillars love to listen to stories and once a child asks for a story to be read to them you can always guarantee that other children will come across to sit and listen, it's lovely to see.
