Year 2: Spiders

Welcomtthe Spiders!

Hello and welcome to the Spiders!

*Meet the Spiders' grown-ups*

The grown-ups in the Spiders class are Miss Locke, Mrs Gilmore and Miss Robins. We love teaching the Spiders and we are so proud of their achievements!

If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you!

*Our Christian Value for the term*

Our Christian value in the final term is 'Justice'.

Justice means giving all people - particularly the poor and oppressed - what it is right and fair for them to have: life, health, freedom and dignity.

It is about acting out of a concern for what is right and seeing right prevail. It is about social justice, especially for those who suffer most and are least able to protect themselves.

Justice is all about being fair and kind and ensuring that whatever we do we know it is morally right for everyone.

Psalm 11:7

'For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.’

*Our Learning for this term*

This term our topic is:

Around the world

This term our topic is Around the World. We have lots of exciting things planned across our lessons including Geography, Design & Technology, PE, Music, and Guided Reading. In Geography we are exploring the oceans and continents by learning the names of the oceans and continents, where they are in the world as well as learning about the points on a compass and how to use them. This term our Design and Technology lessons will be linked to Geography when we are going to learn about different cuisines around the world and even have a go at making our own versions of some of them! In RE, we are continuing to explore Christianity and Islam and discussing the theme of how faith can shape the way people choose to live their lives. In Art, we are practicing pencil sketching techniques and exploring the work of L. S. Lowry.  In Music and PE we are practicing for end of year show by rehearsing a variety of songs and a dance routine. The dance routine we are learning will feature movements inspired by different types of dance around the world. We are also continuing to work alongside Lincoln City Foundation for PE on a Tuesday. PE days are Tuesday and Friday – please ensure your child is wearing the correct PE kit of a plain white t-shirt and black shorts or tracksuit bottoms. If it is warm, please ensure your child has a hat with them with their name written inside.

English

We are continuing with Talk for Writing, using the model text of Why Dragons are Afraid of Mice. We will be developing writing in a variety of ways, such as writing explanations, using generalisers, writing in third person and remembering full stops and capital letters.

Maths

We will be continuing with the White Rose Maths scheme of learning. In this term, children will be further exploring shape, this time looking at position and direction using terms such as left, right, forwards, backwards, clockwise and anti-clockwise

Spellings

We will be continuing to look for spellings in the children’s writing throughout the day. We will send the spellings home in the children’s spellings books as usual.

Home Learning Ideas

  • Can you create a map showing how a teddy bear could get from one place to another using words such as forwards, backwards, left, and right?
  • Can you colour in the different oceans and continents on Earth?
  • Can you explore the cuisine of another country?
