Reception: Butterflies

Welcomtthe Butterflies!

Hello and welcome!

*Meet the Butterflies grown-ups*

The grown-ups in the Butterflies class are Miss Wright, Mrs De'Ath and Miss Gibbons. We love teaching the Butterflies and we are so proud of their achievements!

If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you!

*Our Christian Value for the term*

Our Christian value in the final term is 'Justice'.

Justice means giving all people - particularly the poor and oppressed - what it is right and fair for them to have: life, health, freedom and dignity.

It is about acting out of a concern for what is right and seeing right prevail. It is about social justice, especially for those who suffer most and are least able to protect themselves.

Justice is all about being fair and kind and ensuring that whatever we do we know it is morally right for everyone.

Psalm 11:7

'For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.’

*Our Learning for this term*

Summer 2

How can we be in our final term in this school year already?

We have had an amazing year so far and our learning journey continues this half term. We are so proud of all the Butterflies and it has been a pleasure to watch them blossom and grow.

This term we are consolidating our phonic skills, reading trickier words and longer sentences. These skills will transfer into our reading and writing where we will be doing more group reading and writing for a range of different purposes. In Talk for Writing our story is 'The Kissed that Missed' and we can not wait to explore a range of different characters the knight meets in the wild wood. Alongside this we will also be learning and exploring a range of traditional tales.

In maths, we are consolidating our skills, alongside beginning to solve problems relating to addition and subtraction and also odd and even numbers.

We will also be designing healthy sandwiches, ready for picnic time and continuing to lead our own learning both indoors and outdoors.

What another busy and exciting half term!

Summer 1

Our topic for this term is Everyone's Invited!

Our talk for writing story is Toys in Space. We are going to be looking at different characters, creating the room of 1000 lost toys and planning our very own party just like the toys did in space! We will be continuing to develop our writing skills focusing on the use of full stops and capital letters. We will also be learning to write instructions, to help us to make party hats, party food and space jelly all ready for our space party!

We are looking forward to starting our little Wandle Journey in phonics as we begin phase 4.

In Maths we are going to be exploring shapes and also investigating our environment outside to see what patterns we can spot. We will continue to develop our understanding of number practising and learning new skills including number bonds and doubling.

Throughout the term, we will be working as a team, linking to our value of Trust, to create transport, dens and a range of other exciting activities as we learn through our play, shared reading stories and have fun together as Butterflies!

Spring 2

Out topic this term is Ready, Steady, Grow!

We are looking forward to exploring what plants need to grow and planting our own. Alongside this we will be exploring where different foods come from and thinking about the foods we do and do not like.

Linking to this our Talk for Writing Story is Jack and the Beanstalk, where will continue to develop our story telling and writing skills as we learn the story, all about 'Beating the Baddie!'

We are continuing to practise our phonics and read a range of digraphs and trigraphs within different words and in our own reading books.

Alongside all of this we will continue to develop friendships, fun and in the moment learning whenever the opportunity arises!

SPRING 1

Our topic this term is 'Our Special World'.

We are focusing on our local area before exploring other familiar settings and then colder climates. We are going to discover what is near our school, learn about different places of worship and have fun exploring winter and who lives in cold climates.

Alongside this, we are continuing our phonic journey as we learn to read and apply this into our Writing. Our Talk for Writing story this term is The Sleepy Bumble Bee and is a journey story as the Bumble Bee looks for somewhere to sleep. We will be learning all about different settings, story language and learn a range of new words.

Our maths journey is also continuing as we delve deeper into number, counting and solving problems.

We are such busy Butterflies with role play, the creation station and many opportunities to learn both indoors and outdoors everyday. It is going to be another great term!

AUTUMN TERM 2

This term our topic is Bright Lights and Dark Nights!

We will be thinking all about special festivals, people who help us and the differences between night and day. As part of this we will  be learning all about nocturnal animals and focusing particularly on  hedgehogs. This links really well to our Talk for Writing story for this half term "The Baby Hedgehog".

Alongside we will be continuing our phonics journey as we learn to read, developing our love of stories and enjoying a range of maths activities. It is going to be another fun and busy half term in the Butterflies class.

AUTUMN TERM 1

We are so excited to start a new and busy year in the Butterflies. This half term we will be enjoying spending time together as we get to know each other and begin our learning journey together.

Our topic this term is 'Me, Myself and I'. We will be learning all about Reception life and the Butterflies classroom. We will make lots of new friends and have exciting and fun days. We will also be thinking about our families, our homes and the local community.

We will be starting our phonic lessons as we learn to read and write together. In Talk for Writing we will be focusing on the Gingerbread Man and retelling stories. In maths, we will be exploring number and be practising our counting, number recognition and number ordering skills. Alongside all of this we will be learning through playing together, exploring, investigating and finding out more.
